What a nice weekend. We barely did anything.
Thanksgiving day we got up and headed to family lunch. I curled my hair overnight and it looked cute for a couple of hours.
It was pretty much deflated by the time we got home.
After we got home and I had my own MST3K Turkey Day — Hercules Unchained, The Brain That Wouldn’t Die, Jack Frost, part of Final Sacrifice.
Chase put a roast on when we got home from family lunch – using Alton Brown’s recipe – for us to have for dinner. I made mashed potatoes and we had cranberry sauce too. So we had a mini-Thanksgiving dinner just with roast instead of turkey. The roast turned out pretty good. Didn’t like the gravy it made at all, tho, so that was a little sad.
Friday we got on up early and headed to Joann’s because there were several things I needed – first up, I needed to see if I could find more sequins for my Elsa corset (more on that later). I should’ve known better than to expect Joann’s to have a decent selection of sequins, I’ve learned this from experience and of course they had nothing. Couldn’t find any possible fabric either (had my eyes peeled for a couple of things). Ended up just buying some patterns since they were on sale.
Love these so much!
There weren’t really any Simplicity costume patterns I needed. Got that suit pattern at the top and Cinderella (even tho I already have the earlier licensed Cinderella pattern). Went thru the vintage section and got that Rosie-the-Riveteer-esque pattern (super cute), the two next to it, and the 40s-style pants pattern – even thougH I think I had that one already. The pants one I just grabbed because they didn’t have the sleeve pattern I wanted so I just thumbed thru the drawers til I found something I liked to make it an even 10, LOL. Then also got a sports bra and workout shirt pattern since I don’t have anything like those.
Then we went to TRU – didn’t buy anything, just looked. Then to Best Buy where I found the PORG ON BOARD!
And I had to get it.
Gotta put him in my car soon.
Went to Target too and I found a sweater I needed.
Came home, napped, ate leftovers, watched more MST3K.
Saturday we did nothing. Didn’t leave the house, I sewed a bit, ate more leftovers. I was actually bored!
Sunday we got the Christmas stuff down from the attic and put up. Once again no breakables on the tree which means most of my ornaments stayed in their bins 🙁
Did get this one out and cleaned up… I’ve had this since it was new. I’ve always been curious, why did they provide a stage to set them up on but absolutely no holes to like, insert the figures into to keep them standing? George and John are having to lean against the drum platform. Ringo is just balanced on the tiny stick of his chair and won’t stay up for more than a few seconds, and his drum kit falls over if anything even looks at it funny. It’s just so strange. When I was a kid I tried to use plastic-tac on their feet to make them stay up. There was still some caked on the stand that I scraped off. 20 year old plastic-tac! It’s caused some discoloration on the stand, and one of Ringo’s drumsticks is broken off, but otherwise they’re still in good shape. I’d love to put them out again but… LUNA.
Speaking of which, I had the good idea to drape some red tinsel around the curtain rod in the living room with the excess hanging down. It lasted about 3 hours before Luna noticed it and took a flying leap at it. So that’s packed back away.
I haven’t taken a pic of the tree yet… I decided it needs the white lights on it in addition to the coloured lights, it just looks too blah right now. So I’ll get those back down and on the tree tonight. OH! And remember how I couldn’t find my Halloween decorations?! Found them in a bin back behind all the Christmas stuff in the attic. At least I know where they are now.
Then we went to Hanging of the Greens at church, out to dinner with my parents, and back home.
So in the world of Sewing…
I decided to pick up my Elsa corset again. I started on this thing back in 2013, put it on hold, and by 2015 I had decided I wasn’t interested in doing it for myself anymore. In 2016 I decided to finish the bodice since I already had it started and already had all the supplies – since we were taking so many road trips that year I figured I could finish sequinning it in the car and do a giveaway with it. Well I only worked on it on one of those trips LOL.
So I picked it back up again thursday as an excuse to sit on the couch and watch old Project Runway episodes. I did get a good bit done.
This was it circa July 2016:
And as of Saturday:
Unfortunately it was on Thursday I started to realize I was not going to have enough sequins. No problem I can find that same seller again right? WRONG… their site is gone and their twitter hasn’t been updated since 2014. Well surely other people carry cornflower blue square and rectangle sequins right? NOPE. WTF.
I finally found somebody who carried the same sizes just in different blues. So I got some in a deeper blue and a lighter blue to try to mix in so I could finish it. Dunno when they’ll get here since they’re coming from Australia. I was hoping to have this thing finished by the end of the year to do an instagram giveaway but it’s going to depend on how long it takes them to get here, because I want to go ahead and start mixing them in before I get much further.
Anyway onto Leia progress.
Finally got the hem and side slits looking ok. Got the sleeves finished off (though, I did them both thinking I’d done them right, then flipped them and one of them I’d managed to get the lining twisted. Had to undo it and redo it).
These hems look so much better once they’ve been pressed.
Got my collar cut and flipped, though I’m thinking of switching to a curved version?
I haven’t attached it yet of course, gonna see how it looks towards the end and make a decision.
Finished up the edges of the keyhole opening, too.
For the hood I used Twi’lek Pam’s hood measurements and it worked perfectly.
Hemmed it by hand which I suck at but it looks decent enough.
My old hood was two layers and too thick. New one is one layer and should look much nicer.
Got it gathered and hand-sewed it in place for now.
Collar pinned on top so I could try it all on. It looks good from the front except the collar is a little tall — but I can’t see the back well enough. Going to put it on again tonight and have Chase take a picture so I can make sure everything is lining up correctly. I can’t do that on my dressform — the entire neck area is too big.
I will leave this as a summation of my weekend:
Even though I didn’t have tequila. Or tacos.
But there were naps. Lots of naps.
